International Environmental Governance

The EMG has responded to the invitation by the Governing Council of UNEP to contribute to the work of the Consultative Group of Ministers or High-Level Representatives which have been considering the broader reform of the international environmental governance (IEG) system.

A consultative EMG meeting on the matter was convened 19 May 2010 in the margins of the first meeting of the preparatory committee of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development held from 17-21 May 2010 in New York.

Acting in their individual capacity, EMG members have provided inputs to and commented on draft documents and participated in the meetings of the Consultative Group. The conclusions from the work of the Group are available in the ”Nairobi-Helsinki Outcome” document.

A note titled “Environment in the UN system” has been prepared by UNEP in support of the Consultative Group with extensive inputs from the UN system through the EMG.
