Issue Management Group on Biodiversity
The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) seeks to promote the protection and sustainable use of the world’s living resources. Building on the earlier Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020, the role of the GBF is to guide international cooperation on achieving the 2050 vision of ‘living in harmony with nature’. This vision was agreed by the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and is outlined in CBD decision 10/2. The GBF was adopted at the 2022 United Nations Biodiversity Conference (COP15).
The EMG Issue Management Group (IMG) on Biodiversity was established in 2021 to continue and expand upon the work of the now-concluded EMG Consultative Process on Biodiversity. Co-chaired by UNDP, UNEP and UNESCO, the IMG’s mandate is to prepare the ground for UN-system collaboration on the GBF through the UN Common Approach to Biodiversity.

The Second Meeting
The Second meeting of the EMG Consultative Process on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework took place on 27 February 2020 in Rome, Italy in the margins of the Second meeting of the Open-ended Working Group on the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework.
The First Meeting
The Consultative Process met for the first time on the 29th of November, 2019, in the margins of the 23rd meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice, November 25th-29th, in Montreal, Canada.
